Chip Multilayer Ceramic Capacitor (MLCC)

SSRM analysis of chip multilayer ceramic capacitors (MLCCs)

【Summary】A chip multi-layer ceramic capacitor (MLCC) is a capacitor with a laminated structure of internal electrodes (metal)/dielectric layer (insulator)/internal electrodes (metal). One of the problems with MLCC is the insulation deterioration (lower resistance) of the dielectric layer at high electric fields and high temperatures, that is, short circuit between electrodes. Visualizing the low resistance conduction path formed in the dielectric layer is an important clue to clarify the phenomenon of insulation deterioration. For this type of device, the insulation deterioration of dielectric materials under temperature changes can be characterized by combining SSRM (high electric field) and heating equipment (high temperature).
